Now well and truly retired from this grueling sports he continues to stay active riding his bike most days and playing golf.

Chris Sutherland

A couple of years ago, Chris and his partner made the bold decision to move to Tasmania, initially planning for a short stay. Little did they know, their adventure was just beginning. One renovated home, two rescue doggies and the delightful addition of a beautiful baby girl and they are here to stay. Growing up in Melbourne, Chris played AFL footy and recently moved into endurance racing, from Beach Road to Hobart, running, cycling and swimming along the way. These pursuits have set him up to push boundaries, embrace challenges and enjoy the opportunity for growth.


Professionally, Chris loves to work directly with business owners, everything from operations, strategy and ultimately improving their lives. He likes to share his professional experience with the Collins SBA team and believes it’s important to invest in colleagues with a goal of explaining to understand. Born and raised in Melbourne, Riva’ childhood was filled with cherished memories shared with her younger brother and cousin leaving her with no option but being forced to play hours of backyard cricket. She loves swimming and watching Bollywood movies. In the 1980s, Riva’s parents relocated to Australia and embarked on the entrepreneurial journey of opening a small business, instilling in her a strong work ethic from an early age. While pursuing her education at Monash University, Riva worked as a part-time swimming instructor, enjoying the opportunity to impart valuable skills and confidence to young learners.

 

When Riva’s not crunching numbers or analysing financial reports, you can find her cheering on for the Indian Cricket Team. A die-hard fan of the TV show “Friends,” Riva has lost count of how many times she’s binge-watched every episode and can effortlessly quote memorable lines. Recently relocating to Tasmania, Riva embraces the opportunity to hike the trails our island has to offer, immersing herself in the natural beauty of her surroundings. And being a true Melburnian, she is always on the lookout for the perfect brew, exploring Tasmania’s quaint cafes and discovering new coffee blends.

Rhytham is recognised as an internationally rated chess player, whose journey into the world of chess began at the tender age of 7 when she enthusiastically joined an activity at her school. Little did she know that this decision would shape her destiny.

 

Her talent quickly became evident as she clinched her first district championship shortly thereafter. Despite facing initial obstacles, she achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the state champion 14 times, all while excelling in her studies.

 

Her passion for accounting stemmed from her family, where everyone is involved in the financial sector. Following her completion of a bachelor degree in India, she relocated to Australia to pursue her Master in Professional Accounting.

 

However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic introduced a new chapter in Rhytham’s journey. Fate led her to Mures Lower Deck, where she began working in the kitchen. Over the next  5 years, she demonstrated remarkable resilience and dedication, ascending to the role of Head Chef while simultaneously pursuing her CPA in Accounting.

Hailing from the food paradise of Ipoh, Malaysia, Eva’s upbringing included trying new cuisine, and with her fondest memories revolving around food adventures shared with her family. As the youngest of two girls in a household where her father, a marine captain, spent alternating intervals at home and away, Eva learned the value of family time and the joy of savouring moments together.

Inspired by her mother’s career as an accountant, Eva found her calling early in the world of numbers. However, her childhood dreams briefly flirted with the idea of a medical career as a doctor, but Eva’s aversion to the sight of blood steered her toward a different path!

Born, bred and very proudly Tasmanian, Adam loved school and particularly enjoyed maths, numbers, soccer and cricket whilst growing up. His first date, with his now wife was at The Alley Cat in North Hobart, and he even remembers what she was wearing. They met when they were both working at a casual weekend job and studying at UTAS together.  Fast forward and they are now a busy family of three. He still loves sport, but his interests are now with Formula One Racing and Test Cricket.  A mentor described Adam as an “old soul”; he values the special moments in life like the smell of coffee in the morning, hosting his friends and family at home and driving holidays. He has admired three famous people in his life so far, representing culture, sport, and business – and they are Anthony Bourdain, Shane Warne, and Warren Buffet.

Lydia’s passion for horses and riding started at four (4) years of age. She readily takes on the challenge and compassion required to train and look after her horse Marnie, a 15h stock horse. Lydia balances her time away from work by playing team sports and is the Women’s coordinator at Hobart City beachside Football club. 
 
Lydia joined Collins SBA in 2021, after five (5) years in the Financial Industry, based in Queensland. She brings positivity to everything she undertakes and is passionate about ensuring our team members and clients have a remarkable experience.

Selly Chou

At the age of 18, Selly made the brave decision to leave her home country of Indonesia and move to Tasmania to pursue her education. Selly does not let fear hold her back and she works incredibly hard to take advantage of every opportunity that comes her way. Courage doesn’t always mean fearless but it’s certainly about facing any fears and making the decision anyway. 

 

Selly enjoys baking, especially Birthday cakes for her friends, cooking since a child and you will find her reading every chance she gets. She enjoys mostly fiction including biographies and thrillers. Selly recommends the psychological horror story “Verity” a novel by Colleen Hoover as a great read.

Belinda or Bin as she is better known, is a born and bred Tasmanian growing up in the beautiful Huon Valley. At 14 years of age,  she met her now husband – a childhood sweetheart love story and together they are raising two children. 

 

They own and operate a 15-acre Cherry Farm, where they export Tassie cherries to China, Japan, Korea, India and Thailand. Family time is spent with their horses or motorbikes. Bin’s daughter starting riding at 3.5 years old and their son started motorbike riding at just 5 years old. Bin is actively involved in the local Pony Club and soon she will commence her role as District Commissioner.

 

Bin has extensive professional experience in the Financial Industry, and we are delighted that she has made her way back to Collins SBA. Bin loves the variety of her role, the chance to form relationships with our clients and passing on her experience and knowledge to her other team members. She finds balance in being highly organised and structured. This supports her goal of completing her role at the end of work day and returning home to be fully present with her family.

Jaye grew up in Tasmania with her mum and brother, flying to Melbourne frequently to visit her dad in the second city she calls home. At the age of 8, her mum took them on an adventurous caravan trip across Australia visiting places like Monkey Mia in Western Australia to the Atherton Tablelands in the highland region of north Queensland. Over their year of adventures Jaye was home schooled, which instilled in her a deep sense of family, adaptability, resilience, and a profound love for the outdoors. Jaye is also influenced by her very active grandparents, who are avid hikers and trail runners. Jaye enjoys turning off her phone and embarking on weekend camping adventures with her partner Matt.

 

Jaye’s love for travel has taken her to New Zealand, Japan, and Vietnam so far, enriching her perspective on the world and community. A passionate writer, she completed an English and Creative Writing degree and has even self-published her first novel. Tom grew up near Ryde in Sydney, where his family often put the weekends aside to go camping in the Blue Mountains or explore remote NSW. His father was an engineer, and his mother, an entomologist, inspired Tom’s early fascination with the natural world. At school, Tom excelled in gymnastics, swimming, and athletics, although he humorously acknowledges that he struggled to keep up at the regional swimming carnivals.

Tom’s journey took a pivotal turn when he met his wife, Eve, in Broken Hill where he had secured a nursing placement. Together, they have settled in Tasmania with their young family, embracing a family mission that reflects their core values and aspirations for their shared future. In his spare time, Tom enjoys reading, gardening and fishing, finding moments of relaxation amid his busy schedule.

Currently transitioning from healthcare to business and financial services, Tom is driven to prove his capabilities to the team, clients, and himself. After a ridiculously happy childhood growing up in the Hobart suburb of Berriedale, Louise obtained a degree in civil engineering. She promptly changed disciplines to domestic engineering, bringing up and home schooling her 6 children.


Louise recently returned to the workforce and now enjoys her dream job as a Director of First Impressions  (Receptionist) at Collins SBA. She loves to assist clients and the team as much as possible and greatly values all her interactions with us.


The things which light her up are learning and spending time with family and friends. She enjoys many things, including Latin Mass, Gregorian chant, 80s rock,  non-fiction reading, and waitressing part time.


We are so lucky to have Louise, her values and warm and engaging approach to everything she does.

Patrick had a university semester abroad in Sweden which created a keen interest in exploring overseas destinations whenever he gets the chance. 


He is also the host of the Ensombl AdviceTech Podcast.  Ensombl is the leading digital platform for financial advice professionals.

Richard Jones

Growing up in Launceston, Richard followed his fathers footsteps into the Financial Services industry. And while studying at UTas, Richard helped his dad out and caught the bug of being in a professional career where he gets to help people everyday.

 

Richard assists Collins SBA clients understand and navigate the unexpected and the unplanned. 

 

Common triggers for reviewing insurance plans include babies, an increase or decrease in income, or business revenue, purchasing a property or new business, a change in shareholder agreements, and change in your liabilities, marital status or health. 

 

Richard makes the complex easy to understand and is readily available to answer questions. The team at Collins SBA love working with Richard and the opportunity to learn directly from him.

Roni Black

Administration Manager

Roni enjoys getting creative in the kitchen and surprising friends and family with baked goods. She loves using her free time to unwind on the beach, or take road trips to explore our beautiful country.

 

Working within the Administration team, Roni draws on her many years of experience with Collins SBA to provide advice and focus on internal accounts. Amongst other things, she manages payroll, cash flow, suppliers, refunds and IAS and continues to enjoy the dynamic and forward thinking environment of Collins SBA.

Jonathan Elliot

Jonathan graduated with Bachelor of Commerce from UTas in 1998 and immediately started his career in financial planning as a Paraplanner. Jonathan was a founder of Collins SBA in 2003 and now leads the Collins SBA team as Managing Director, overseeing the strategic direction and integration of our people and processes to ensure we deliver on our purpose of empowering our client’s best financial lives. Jonathan also fulfils the roles of Responsible Manager for our Australian Financial Services License (SBA Advice).

 

Jonathan uniquely holds professional designations as both a CFPTM and CPA and was awarded the highly coveted IFA Practice Principal of the Year 2017 and has led the Collins SBA team to be Finalists in various awards. Jonathan also led Collins SBA’s world-first trial of a ‘5 Hour Day’ which gained international media attention for successfully implementing this unique working approach which rewards team members efforts to continually improve outcomes for clients.

 

Jonathan is married to Louise with daughter Esther and son Thomas. “Being a great dad and husband drives me to give my best in business because my family’s financial security depends on me.”

 

Mountain biking and cycling keeps Jono fit as well as a providing a place for mindfulness –  to recharge and stay focused. ‘Walking the talk’ is how he empathically leads the Collins SBA team, to empower people to understand the risks, opportunities and trade-offs of the decisions they make to achieve clarity, confidence and control so they can live their best financial life.
